  • Metal spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

• 500 grams ground beef, preferably 80/20 blend

• 1 large onion, thinly sliced

• 4 burger buns

• 4 cheese slices

• 1 tablespoon butter

• 1 tablespoon cooking oil

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon black pepper

• 4 lettuce leaves

• 8 pickle slices

• 4 tablespoons burger sauce

Instructions

1. Slice the onions thinly and prepare the remaining burger ingredients.

    2. Divide the ground beef into four equal loose portions.

      3. Warm a cast-iron skillet on medium-high heat until the surface is very hot.

        4. Lightly coat the skillet surface with oil before cooking the burgers.

          5. Place the beef portions onto the skillet and top them with sliced onions.

            6. Smash burgers firmly using a spatula for crispy golden edges.

              7. Season patties evenly using salt and freshly ground black pepper.

                8. Allow the patties to crisp up fully before carefully turning them once.

                  9. Add cheese slices immediately and cook until completely melted.

                    10. Lightly toast the burger buns with butter for a rich, delicious flavor.

                      11. Spread burger sauce evenly across both toasted bun halves.

                        12. Add lettuce, patties, pickles, and onions before serving immediately.

                          Notes

                          • Use cold ground beef for better crispy burger edges.
                          • Avoid over-mixing the beef, or the patties may become dense and dry.
                          • Smash the patties fast before the meat begins to cook through.
                          • Yellow onions create a sweeter flavor during the burger caramelization process.
                          • Toasted buns hold juicy patties and sauces much better.
                          • Cook burgers on high heat for a deeper, savory flavor.
                          • Serve burgers immediately for the best texture and freshest taste.
