Equipment

  • Potato Masher or Fork
  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking tray
  • Oven
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

• 4 medium sweet potatoes

• Use 2–3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter.

• 1 teaspoon salt

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

• 1 teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional)

• 1–2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, or thyme)

• 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (optional)

• Use 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

• Sour cream or yogurt dip for serving (optional)

Instructions

1. Wash the sweet potatoes well and peel if desired, then cut into chunks or keep small ones whole for even cooking.

    2. Boil in salted water or roast until the potatoes are soft and easily pierced with a fork.

      3. Place them on a lined baking tray and gently press each piece using a fork or glass to flatten slightly.

        4. Drizzle olive oil or melted butter over each piece, then evenly sprinkle salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.

          5. Bake in a preheated oven at high temperature until the edges turn golden and crispy while the inside stays soft.

            Notes

            • Be careful not to overcook the potatoes before smashing, or they can turn mushy and break easily.
            • Leave space between each piece on the tray to help them crisp up properly.
            • Use high heat while baking for better browning and texture.
            • Add the seasonings after smashing so they spread evenly over the surface.
            • Try different flavors, such as sweet or spicy, to suit your taste.
            • Reheat in an oven or air fryer to keep them crispy, avoiding the microwave.
